Maple Grove School

Acorn Care and Education are delighted to announce the planned opening of Maple Grove School in Chester.

Maple Grove School provides a specialist setting for learners with autism.  Situated in Hoole, Chester, the school is set within a beautiful, historic building that has been completely refurbished and redesigned to the highest standard.

Everything we do at Maple Grove revolves around the individual needs of each child attending our school, with the aim that every learner is able to fulfil their potential.  Along with the rich and varied curriculum, we focus on developing core life skills such as communication and social ability, sensory processing and emotional regulation; every pupil develops the essential capabilities they need to be as independent as possible when they leave school.

Ben Reading – Head Teacher, Maple Grove School

Having studied at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Cambridge, Ben has worked with children who have autism and additional needs requirements since qualifying as a teacher in 2003. Combining a Master’s degree in Behaviour Analysis, with a commitment to relationship-based, person-centred support, Ben has always enjoyed working with pupils with the most complex needs. This has included children with challenging behaviour and communication difficulties, with a particular interest in curriculum design, and assessment. In addition to working in a number of very successful special schools, Ben has also worked as a specialist advisory teacher for Cheshire West and Chester’s Autism Team.

EDUCATION

We use a range of best practice strategies and interventions to design and deliver highly individualised learning opportunities for our pupils, combining National Curriculum subjects with an autism-specific curriculum.

THERAPY & WELFARE

We are ambitious about what each of our pupils can achieve, regardless of their starting point, and take pride in recording, sharing and celebrating the progress they make as individuals. A range of therapeutic interventions from specialist practitioners will be provided in line with individual needs.
