Philosophy of Care
It is our belief that all children, deserve the highest standard of physical and emotional care, stability, consistency, structure and clear appropriate boundaries. We aim to help children build a resilience to cope with challenges and difficulties to help them reach their full potential.
The ethos of Spinney House is to offer a homely and welcoming environment where all children can thrive and grow, with a therapeutic approach within a family style atmosphere. There is a strong emphasis upon establishing a secure base from which the child can experience a close relationship with their identified keyworker as a primary care provider. This is undertaken within a safe environment where a child can test authority and have appropriate boundaries and controls on their behaviour.
Spinney aims to provide a stable and nurturing environment to give a child the opportunity to heal and to experience or rediscover a sense of their own self-worth. To this end, care and placement plans alongside twenty-four hour individual behaviour support plans will be implemented for each young person.
Our therapeutic model recognises that all the people we support are individual and our provision is tailored to meet their needs and wishes from the point of admission and throughout their journey with us.
Clinical support is led by the Head of Clinical Services and is delivered by a core team of clinicians to include Clinical Psychologists, Forensic Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech & Language Therapists.
Each service’s designated team will reflect the needs of the children and young people that live and learn within the schools and or homes, however additional support can also be accessed from other specialists within the wider Clinical Team. This enables us to be responsive to any newly identified, time limited or changing needs of an individual throughout their placement with us.
Offering highly specialised assessment, consultation, reflective practice supervision and bespoke training, the Clinical Team work directly with education and care staff teams to develop a shared understanding of the children, the resources and the practices needed. This ensures that we deliver the highest quality provision which maximises each person’s quality of life and personal achievements.
Within our specialist schools the clinicians aim to reduce potential barriers to learning and educational success by working directly with the children and young people in line with their ECHP recommendations.
Our evidence informed models are based on best practice guidance and are governed through the Outcomes First Governance Framework.
Education is offered at nearby New Barn School, registered with Ofsted and catering for young people up to the age of 16. Education is provided in a structured and caring environment and planned to meet both academic and pastoral needs of the children. The School is registered with DfE and caters for young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
The education provision is continuously developing and is flexible to the needs of the individuals as well as the demands of the National Curriculum.
Hungerford has several parks and is surrounded by woods and commons- great for walks, bike rides, camping and other group activities. It has access to a swimming pool, youth clubs and a skate park.

Our aim is to match the needs of each individual child placed in our care. Wherever possible admissions should be planned and involve all family and professionals so as to ensure each placement has the best possible start.
