Councillor Alan Taylor, Mayor of Dudley formally opens The Wenlock School

The Wenlock School celebrated its official opening on Tuesday 13th November. Located in Fossil View, Wren’s Hill Road on the site of the old Dudley College the school has been created following a multi-million investment to provide fantastic facilities for its pupils. Since opening its doors this September, the school has already welcomed 15 children from across the Black Country.

The Wenlock School is quickly gaining a reputation for enabling pupils, who have previously experienced challenges in their school, to re-engage with their education. The specialist, experienced staff team at The Wenlock School support all pupils to unlock their potential through challenge, opportunity, therapy, care and understanding. A personalised, innovative approach combines the ambition for every child with a broad, balanced and purposeful curriculum which has been dramatically enhanced by the school’s new, state of the art facilities.

For pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism and associated conditions, a place at The Wenlock School ensures improvements in behaviour, confidence and most importantly, belief in themselves, which leads to accelerated learning inside the classroom and beyond.

David Leatherbarrow, Group Chief Executive of NFA Group, owners of Acorn Care and Education, said: “Our continued and ongoing investment in our schools is designed to create and develop opportunities for all the children and young people for whom we provide specialist education. I am delighted with Gemma and the staff team at The Wenlock School for their innovation and commitment to drive the boundaries of what is possible and have each child at the focus of all they do”

The Guests were given a tour of the school by the pupils, together with Headteacher Gemma Mann and NFA Group CEO David Leatherbarrow.

Richard Power, Managing Director of Education for Acorn Care and Education added: “My team has worked closely with the communities in Dudley to ensure the great facilities we have at our school really reflect the needs of the children and young people in the area. Those children who started in September have already benefited from the personalised approach Gemma has put in place to ensure their learning environment closely meets their individual needs.”
