Westbourne School, part of Acorn Education, is a truly unique provision that blends academic, vocational learning alongside the holistic development of everyone, focusing on their personal, social and emotional development and wellbeing.

Over the last 12 months, they have been on a journey towards creating a truly supportive and nurturing environment for all their pupils. They are proud of the progress they have made and are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the team and pupils.

The Westbourne School approach is relationship-based, trauma-informed, and therapeutic-focused.

“We value our partnership with the clinical team, and their guidance influences everything we do, from selecting the paint on our walls to the food we serve.

Our ways of working are underpinned by our three core habits: Being Ready, Respectful, and Safe. These are backed up by our PRIDE values (Positivity, Respectfulness, building Independence, showing Determination and including Everyone) and both were developed in collaboration with our pupils and colleagues and have influenced everything we do.”

The school is moving towards a split of lower and upper schools, and has now got an area to educate pupils who have moderate learning difficulties. They are extremely proud to support children who have been out of school for a long time and help them feel a sense of belonging that they have never had with a school before.
