Belmont Primary Pupils Get Stuck into Tree Planting!
Some of our Belmont Primary pupils have been rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty,
Enrichment opportunities in schools are much more than extracurricular activities; they play a vital role in shaping well-rounded, resilient individuals who are prepared to thrive in the real world. For young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), these experiences can be particularly transformative, fostering confidence, encouraging community engagement, and promoting personal growth.
Red Moor School in Cornwall, part of Acorn Education, is setting a national example by becoming the first SEN school in the country to establish its own Army Cadet Force Unit. This pioneering initiative, led by Teaching Assistant and Detachment Commander Ruth Colrein, offers students the opportunity to participate in cadet activities one afternoon per week. The program provides an exceptional platform for pupils to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and self-discipline, while also building meaningful connections with their peers and local community.
The positive impact of Red Moor School’s enrichment approach has not gone unnoticed. Ofsted’s latest report commended the school’s dedication to providing comprehensive learning experiences:
“Pupils benefit from plentiful opportunities to build on their skills and talents… This all helps them build character, resilience, and opportunities to give back to their local community, as well as further afield.”
This initiative serves as a powerful example of why Red Moor School continues to earn its Outstanding rating. By offering students experiences that extend beyond traditional academic learning, the school empowers them to grow, lead, and succeed.
Congratulations to Ruth Colrein and the entire Red Moor team for their dedication to innovative, inclusive education. Your commitment to enriching the lives of your students is truly inspiring and a model for schools across the country. This is what meaningful education looks like.
