SEND White Paper: Your Child’s Place in School Is Secure
The Government has recently published a new SEND White Paper titled Putting Children and Young People First.
It has been an exciting start for our brand-new school in Chesterfield, Bluebank School, with a week full of memorable milestones and community celebrations.
From welcoming special guests to celebrating reading and hosting the school’s first Food Technology lesson, pupils and staff have already begun building a vibrant school community.
Opening Day Celebration
On the first official day of school, the team marked the occasion with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Several guests joined for the celebration, including the Mayor and Mayoress, who were welcomed to the school for a guided tour led by one of our pupils. It was a proud moment for everyone involved and a wonderful way to begin the new term.
The event also attracted local media attention and was later featured in the Derbyshire Times, helping to introduce Bluebank School to the wider community.
Welcoming Families at Our Open Evening
Later in the week, the school held their second open evening for families who had previously registered their interest in the school.
The event was very well attended, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the school, meet the team and learn more about what Bluebank School offers its pupils. Staff were on hand throughout the evening to answer questions and provide insight into the school’s approach and daily life.
Celebrating World Book Day
Pupils and staff also came together to celebrate World Book Day with a fun-filled day centred around the joy of reading.
The celebrations began with a breakfast event for parents and guardians, where families enjoyed shared reading time together. Staff also shared memories of their favourite childhood books, and everyone took part in a lively emoji-themed book quiz.
Throughout the day, pupils took part in World Book Day competitions in Computing before heading out on a trip to Tesco, where they used their World Book Day vouchers to choose new books. The day concluded with a whole-school assembly celebrating the importance of books and reading in everyday life.
Our First Food Technology Session
Another exciting milestone came at the end of the week, when pupils enjoyed their very first Food Technology session.
Before the lesson, pupils visited Tesco to purchase the ingredients they needed for the activity. Back in the classroom, they worked together to bake cookies, each choosing a different flavour of chocolate chips to personalise their creations.
By the end of the day, the cookies had cooled and were ready for pupils to take home and enjoy over the weekend – a delicious way to round off a week full of firsts.
